According to the government’s statement of 2012, by 2020 16% of the Dutch energy need must be met through renewable sources such as wind and biomass. The ultimate goal is to have a fully renewable energy supply system by 2050.
Biogas is an example of renewable energy. It is produced in bio-fermentation plants by combining manure with agrarian produce. AgriBioSource supplies residual flows to these plants to increase the gas production; from carrot peel to beet tops.
We also use the residual heat of the largest fermentation plant in the Netherlands to upgrade our raw materials. We use it to dry, among other things, potato granulate, potato flakes and chicory pulp (Cigarant), which we then convert into pet food.
The bio-fermentation companies ensure that rejected products that are not suitable for animal feed are not simply destroyed but are used to produce energy.
